Create The Future – Part 3: Passion
Passion is the nuclear energy and enthusiasm you carry and it is one of the intangible essentials needed to create the future you dream about.
Passion is not something that can be bottled up or produced synthetically. You can’t fake it. But when carried with the right balance, it is the force that can take raw talent and shape it into something spectacular. Without passion, natural God-given abilities will simply atrophy.
Consider the person with incredible music ability that has no natural love for music. I’ve met people who can pick up any instrument and instantly get the hang of it, but possess no drive to master it. Their natural ability means nothing because they stop at a surface level investment into their natural ability. Why? No passion.
The key to having a naturally flourishing passion is to identify things that fuel your passion. If you can’t explain the source of your passion, it will be extremely difficult for you to help it grow. So it begins with identifying and knowing what events, people or influences sparked fresh curiosity and excitement in you in the first place. If you love coffee, how its grown, roasted, brewed and presented, ask yourself where it all began. Maybe for you it’s athletics and competitive sports. Whatever your interest, learning how to fuel passion is a critical exercise because if we allow our passion tank to run low, our dreams will suffer.
Remember the limiting factors that work against this creative process. In this case, apathy and laziness are powerful foes that work to put out any fires that passion lights. Fight against those at all costs because passion not only serves as the fuel for a strong work ethic, it also becomes the thing that moves other people. When others encounter your vision for the future, matched with raw talent and relentless passion, it is an undeniable mixture that draws people into the vision you are working towards!
Every link in the chain for creating the future you desire is critical: raw ability + passion + hard work ethic + humility + providence = creating the future you dream about. Without passion, there is no drive to work hard and the formula falls apart. In the next post, I’ll dive into hard work ethic and talk about rhythms and sacrifices needed to take talent and passion to the next level.
